Can a wrong rule lock me out of my own site?

No. Administrators keep seeing everything as long as Administrators always see everything is on in Settings. It is on by default.

I saved a rule but the page still shows everything. Why?

• You are logged in as an administrator, so you see everything. Check in a private browser window.
• The rule is Off in the State column, or tagged over the free limit.
• A rule higher in the list covers the same page and lets the visitor in. The first rule that covers a page decides.
• A page cache is serving an old copy. Clear the cache of your caching plugin or hosting.

What happens when two rules cover the same page?

The first rule from the top decides, whichever way it decides. Put specific rules above general ones and use the arrows in the list to move them. See How rules work.

Does it work with a page cache?

Rules by login status and role work, because caches usually serve logged out visitors and leave logged in ones alone. Rules by device are the exception: a cache can serve the wrong version. For layout choices use Hide on in the block editor, which works in CSS.

Are my PDFs and images protected too?

No. Restricting a page hides the page. A file uploaded to the media library keeps its own direct address, which no plugin can close from inside WordPress: that is a job for the web server. If files must be private, keep them out of the media library.

What does the free version leave out?

It applies the first 2 rules, with conditions by login status. Roles, devices, per-block and per-widget visibility, hiding from archives, search and the REST API, replacement pages and targeting by category, tag or other term are part of Pro. Whatever you configure stays saved and starts working as soon as a licence is active. You can also try Pro free for 7 days.

What happens if I delete the plugin?

Your rules, settings and licence key are removed from the site and all content becomes public again. Before removing the key, the plugin releases the site on our server, so the key can be used elsewhere. If our server does not answer, see Move a licence to another site.
