Restrict a single block

With Pro, every block in the WordPress block editor gets a Visibility panel in its settings. Switch on Restrict this block to choose who can see it; the block is removed from the page for everyone else. Use Hide on to hide a block on some screen sizes, with or without a restriction.

Restrict a block

1. Open the page or post in the block editor.
2. Click the block you want to restrict (a block is one piece of the page: a paragraph, an image, a button...).
3. In the settings sidebar on the right, open the Visibility panel. If the sidebar is closed, click the Settings icon at the top right.
4. Switch on Restrict this block.
5. In Who can see it, pick Logged in users, Logged out visitors or Certain roles only. With the last one, tick the roles.
6. Click Update or Save.

This decision is made on the server: a visitor who does not match never receives the block. It is not hidden in the page, it is not in the page at all.

Hide on (screen size)

Under Hide on you can tick Desktop, Tablet and Phone:

• Hiding by screen size works in CSS (the styling code of the page), so it works with page caching.
• It hides, it does not protect: the block is still in the page source. Use it for layout, not for access.
• It works on its own: you do not need to switch on Restrict this block. If you do, the block is hidden on those screens for the visitors who can see it.
• It needs the option Load the three lines of CSS that hide blocks per screen size in Settings, which is on by default.

Without a licence

The Visibility panel appears only with the trial or a licence. Without it, restricted blocks become visible to everyone again, and the settings you gave them are kept for when a licence is active.
