What is Content Gate
Content Gate is a WordPress plugin that decides who can see each part of your site (by login status, user role or device) and what everyone else gets instead: a message, a redirect or another page. It installs empty and changes nothing until you write your first rule.
What it does
You write rules. A rule says three things:
- Who can see it: anyone with an account, only visitors who are not logged in, or only certain user roles.
- What it covers: whole content types (for example all Pages or all Posts), single items by their ID, categories, tags or other terms, or the whole site.
- What everyone else gets: a message where the content was, a redirect somewhere else, or another page shown in its place.
On top of rules you can restrict a single block in the block editor, a classic widget, or a paragraph inside a page with a shortcode (a short code in square brackets that WordPress replaces with something else when the page is shown).

- A shop or a company that wants a price list or a catalogue visible only to logged in customers or resellers.
- A freelancer who wants to put a site behind a login while it is being built.
- Anyone who needs a reserved area without installing a full membership plugin.

Nothing you configure is ever lost. A rule over the free limit, or a Pro option set during the trial, stays saved and starts working again as soon as a licence is active.
Requirements
- WordPress 6.0 or newer.
- PHP 7.4 or newer.
- No external service to connect and no setup step.
What it does not do
Restricting a page hides the page. A file uploaded to the media library (a PDF, an image) keeps its own direct address, and no plugin can close that address from inside WordPress: it is a job for the web server.
The plugin is in English and follows the language of your site. An Italian translation is included.
