Write your first rule

Go to Content Gate > Rules, click Write the first rule (or Add rule), fill in the steps and click Save rule. This example restricts one page to logged in visitors and shows everyone else a message.

Before you start: find the page ID

Every page and post in WordPress has a number called ID.

1. Go to Pages and open the page you want to protect for editing.
2. Look at the address bar of your browser. You see something like post.php?post=12&action=edit.
3. The number after post= is the ID. Here it is 12.

Create the rule

1. Go to Content Gate > Rules.
2. Click Write the first rule (if the list is empty) or Add rule at the top.
3. 1 Name it: type a name only you will see, for example Price list, customers only.
4. 2 Who can see it: choose Anyone with an account. Remember: you choose the group that keeps access, not the one you want to block.
5. 3 What it covers: in Single items, by ID, type the ID of your page, for example 12.
6. 4 What everyone else gets: choose A message where the content was and type the text visitors will read, for example Log in to see the price list.
7. Leave steps 5 Outside the page itself and 6 Devices as they are for now.
8. Make sure This rule is on is ticked at the bottom.
9. Click Save rule. You see Rule saved.

Check that it works

Administrators always see everything, so from your own account the page looks the same. To see what a visitor sees:

• open the page in a private (incognito) window of your browser, where you are not logged in, or
• switch off Administrators always see everything in Settings for a few minutes, then switch it back on.
