Choose what blocked visitors see

Step 4 What everyone else gets of a rule decides what a stopped visitor sees: a message where the content was, a redirect somewhere else, or (Pro) another page shown in its place.

A message where the content was

The page still opens, with your text instead of the content. The visitor understands what happened and the address keeps working.

  • Type your text in the box under the option. Simple formatting and links are allowed.
  • If you leave the box empty, the Default message from Settings is used.
  • If that is empty too, visitors read This content is reserved.

The page title and your theme stay visible; only the content is replaced. The plugin also tells search engines not to index the blocked page.

A redirect somewhere else

The page never opens and the visitor is sent elsewhere. Pick one of:

  • To the login page, and back here afterwards: after logging in, the visitor returns to the page. A visitor who is already logged in but does not qualify (for example the wrong role) is not sent to the login page, which would send them straight back: they see the rule message instead.
  • To the home page.
  • To an address I choose: type the full address, starting with https://, in the box next to it.

For your safety, WordPress only redirects to addresses on your own site. If you type an address on another domain, the visitor is sent to your admin area address instead (which asks them to log in).

Another page, shown in its place (Pro)

Instead of a line of text, the visitor sees the content of another page of your site, with its own layout, a form or a call to action.

  1. Create and publish the page you want to show (for example Become a reseller).
  2. In the rule, choose Another page, shown in its place.
  3. Pick that page in the drop-down list below (it starts on Pick a page).
  4. Click Save rule.

The replacement page must be published. If it is not, the message is shown instead. Without a licence, this option falls back to the message.
