Fix connection problems

Most connection problems are solved by running Run check in box 1 of the Drive Documents page and following the last section of the report, Reading. This table explains the usual messages.

Common messages and fixes

Message (short)What to do
That JSON file is not a service account key.You uploaded a different kind of file (for example an OAuth client file). Create a key from the service account: Keys > Add key > Create new key > JSON.
That text is not valid JSON. / The private key inside the JSON looks truncated.Copy the whole file, from the first brace to the last, or choose the file with the file button instead of pasting.
The Google Drive API is not enabled on this project. In Google Cloud, APIs and services > Library, search Google Drive API, click Enable. Wait a minute and run the check again.
Google refused the key (invalid_grant).The server clock is off by more than a few minutes (ask your host), or the key was deleted in Google Cloud (create a new one and click Replace the key).
Google rejected the credentials. The key was deleted in Google Cloud. Create a new JSON key and paste it in step 1.
The connection to Google works, but no folder has been shared with the service account yet.Share the Drive folder with the service account address as Viewer (see Step F).
Google cannot find that folder or file. The folder of a rule is not shared with the service account any more, or was deleted. Share it again or pick another folder with Browse.
The server cannot reach Google.Your hosting blocks outgoing connections. Ask the host to allow HTTPS calls to www.googleapis.com and oauth2.googleapis.com.
This server has no OpenSSL support in PHP.Ask your host to enable the PHP openssl extension.
Too many requests to Google.Wait a moment. If it happens often, raise the Cache duration (Pro).

The folder does not appear in Browse

  • You shared a file instead of the folder. Share the folder itself.
  • Your Google Workspace organisation forbids sharing outside the domain. Create the service account in a project of the same organisation, or ask the administrator to allow that address.
  • You just shared it. Google can take a minute: click Clear cache in step 1 and reload the page.
  • The folder is on a shared drive. Add the service account address as a member of the shared drive, or share the folder itself with it. If the window says Shared drives cannot be listed here, your organisation does not let Google list them: share the folder instead.
