Common questions
Quick answers to the questions we receive most often about Dropbox Portal.
I added files to Dropbox but they do not show up
The portal remembers folder contents for 5 minutes by default. Click Refresh in the portal, or Clear cache in Dropbox Documents > Dropbox connection. Also check that the files are inside the folder of the rule (with an App folder app, inside Apps/<app name>). See Add files and download them.
A user sees "No document folder is linked to your account"
No active rule matches that user's role. Check the user's role under Users, and the rules in Dropbox Documents > Folders and access. In the free version only the first rule works. See Give roles access to folders.
Can visitors upload files through the portal?
No. The plugin only has read permission on Dropbox. You add files through Dropbox itself, and they appear in the portal.
A download says the file is larger than the limit
Files pass through your server, and the Maximum download size setting (512 MB by default) protects it. Raise the value in Dropbox Documents > Settings, or set 0 for no limit, if your hosting can handle it.
Do files really pass through my server?
Yes, on purpose: it is the only way to make sure a link does not work outside the private area. Files are sent in small chunks, so memory is not an issue, but they do use your hosting bandwidth.
Can I use one page for all my clients?
Yes. The same [nopd_dropbox_portal] page shows each user only the folders of their role. Give each client their own role and rule (Pro, since the free version runs one rule).
I upgraded from an older version. Do I need to change my pages?
No. The old shortcode [lr_dropbox_portal] still works, and the Redirect URI has not changed, so your Dropbox app keeps working. If WordPress warns that two copies of Dropbox Portal are installed, go to the Plugins page, deactivate the old copy (folder lr-dropbox-portal), then delete it. Nothing needs to be configured again: the new copy restores the settings, the Dropbox connection and the licence by itself.
Which languages are included?
The plugin is in English and includes an Italian translation. It follows the language set in Settings > General > Site Language.
Write to us and tell us which plugin, what you tried and what you see. We answer from Italy, usually within one working day.
