Install the free version

You install Product Viewer by uploading its zip file in the WordPress admin. It takes about two minutes and you do not need FTP or any technical tool.

1. Download the zip

  1. Open the Product Viewer page and download the free version.
  2. You get a file ending in .zip. Do not unzip it: WordPress wants the zip exactly as it is.

On a Mac with Safari: Safari may unzip downloads automatically, leaving a folder instead of a zip. To avoid it, open Safari > Settings > General and untick Open "safe" files after downloading, then download again. If you already have a folder, right click it in Finder and choose Compress to turn it back into a zip.

2. Upload it to WordPress

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin: it is usually at yoursite.com/wp-admin.
  2. In the left menu, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin.
  3. Click Upload Plugin at the top of the page.
  4. Click Choose File and pick the zip you downloaded.
  5. Click Install Now.
  6. When the installation finishes, click Activate Plugin.

3. Find it in the menu

A new Product Viewer entry appears in the left admin menu. It contains Overview, New product, Product list, Filters, Import, Settings and Licence (Free). The word in brackets next to Licence always shows the plan in use.

The plugin installs empty: no filters and no products. Continue with Set up your first catalogue.

If something goes wrong

  • "The link you followed has expired": the zip is larger than the upload size your hosting allows. Ask your hosting provider to raise the upload limit, then try again.
  • "Destination folder already exists": a copy of Product Viewer is already installed. WordPress offers Replace current with uploaded: click it to install the new version over the old one. Your filters and products are kept.
  • "Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error": usually the PHP version is too old. Product Viewer needs PHP 7.4 or newer: ask your hosting provider to update it.
