Getting an API key

Translate does not sell translation credits: the service translates with your key and bills you directly, at its own price, with no markup. Your text goes from your site straight to the service and never passes through NOP Digital servers. Paste the key in Translate > Engine.

DeepL

1. Create a DeepL API account (the free plan includes 500,000 characters a month).
2. In your DeepL account, open Account > API keys and copy the key.
3. Paste it in the DeepL API key field. Keys of the free plan end with :fx.

DeepL does not offer every language: the Languages tab marks the ones it lacks, and for those you can use Google or Claude.

Google Cloud Translation

1. In the Google Cloud console, open or create a project. Google asks for billing on the project, even if you stay within the free 500,000 characters a month.
2. Enable the Cloud Translation API.
3. Go to APIs & Services > Credentials > Create credentials > API key and copy the key.
4. Paste it in the Google Cloud API key field.

Claude (Anthropic)

1. Sign in to the Claude Console.
2. Open Settings > API keys > Create key and copy the key.
3. Paste it in the Anthropic API key field and choose the model. Claude is paid by use, per token; the price of each model is shown next to it.

With Claude you can also write Instructions for the translator, for example how to address the reader or the tone to keep.

Check the key

Click Test the saved key: Translate translates one sentence with the service you chose and shows the result.
