Costs and the monthly limit
Translating with Translate is free and has no word cap. What you pay is the translation service, directly, for the text it translates.
Each sentence is translated once
A sentence is sent to the service the first time a page needs it, then it is stored in your site's database. A page that is already translated costs nothing, however many people open it. Only new or changed text is sent again.
Free tiers
DeepL and Google Cloud Translation both include 500,000 characters a month for free. Claude is paid by use, per token. The Engine tab shows the price of each service.
The monthly limit
- Open Translate > Engine and find the Spending card, with the characters sent to the service this month.
- Set Monthly limit, in characters. Keep it at 500,000 to stay inside the free plans of DeepL and Google. 0 means no limit.
When the limit is reached, new text stays in the original language until next month, or until you raise the limit. What is already translated keeps working.
