Getting started

Mail sends the emails of your WordPress site through your own SMTP server instead of the PHP mail of the hosting, keeps a log of every email and tells you when one fails. It works with every plugin that sends through WordPress: contact forms, WooCommerce, memberships.

1. Install the plugin

  1. Download the Mail zip from My licences. Do not unzip it.
  2. In WordPress go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, click Upload Plugin, choose the zip and click Install Now, then Activate Plugin.
  3. A Mail item appears in the left menu.

2. Connect your SMTP server

  1. Open Mail > Connection and set Send with to My SMTP server.
  2. Choose your Email service: server, port and encryption are filled in. If yours is not in the list, choose Other / my hosting and copy the values your provider gives you.
  3. Enter Username (usually the full email address) and Password, then Save changes.

3. Choose the sender

In Sender write an address of your own domain, one the SMTP account is allowed to send from. With Use it for every email off, Mail only replaces the address WordPress invents (wordpress@...); a form plugin that chooses its own sender keeps it.

4. Send a test email

In Send a test email write your address and click Send test email. If it fails, the box says why and Conversation with the server shows the exchange, with the password hidden. See When an email does not leave.
