Accessibility

Every popup is a dialog (role="dialog") named by its title (aria-labelledby).
A window in the centre is modal (aria-modal="true"): the focus moves into it, Tab and Shift+Tab stay inside, the rest of the page is inert and does not scroll. When it closes, the focus goes back where it was.
Boxes and bars are not modal: when they open by themselves they do not take the focus, and you reach them with Tab at the end of the page. Opened by a click, they take the focus.
Esc and the close button (with a label for screen readers) close every popup.
With “reduce motion” in the system settings the popups appear without animation.
Without JavaScript, a link to the popup still opens it and the close button closes it.
